BINTULU: The second phase of the road construction to Pandan and Binyo areas near here will commence once the contractor is appointed.

According to BN candidate for Kemena Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom the road will connect both areas which are currently only reachable by river transportation to Sebauh.

“I want to assure that the road to Pandan and Binyo areas will be constructed in phases in the next five years to ensure all longhouses, school and settlements can be connected to good roads,” he said.

Dr Rundi said this when launching the Mobile Team 2016 programme at Rumah Irai Gasing, Sungai Binyo on Wednesday. During the programme, more than 10 counters of various government agencies and departments were open to provide services to the local people.

Among the participating agencies were Welfare Department, Sebauh District Education Office, National Registration Department and Sarawak Rivers Board.

According to Dr Rundi, the completion of the Binyo and Pandan roads will enable more development in both areas especially in large scale oil palm plantation projects.

“I hope the people will be patient while waiting for the roads to be completed,” said Rundi.

In the meantime, he expressed his appreciation to the participating agencies for their involvement in the programme.

“Hopefully from this programme, the government officials will be more understanding on the needs and sensitivity of the local people,” he added.

During the function Dr Rundi presented grants amounting to RM20,000 to the Security and Development Committee of Rumah Irai Gasing and RM5,000 to its Women’s Bureau.

Sebauh District Officer Desmond Jerukan and Chief Minister’s political secretaries Jenny Bangga and Victor Temenggong Angang were also present.
