MIRI: Former national sprinter Watson Nyambek has withdrawn himself from being the ambassador for Sarawak Marathon Miri.

Speaking to the reporters on Friday, Watson said he wished to support the Miri City Day Half Marathon (MCDHM) instead.

Both events are planned for the same day, that is May 15.

He appeared at the press conference with committee members of the Miri Marathon Association which is organising the MCDHM in collaboration with Miri City Council, Miri Resident Office and Sarawak Tourism Board.

“I understand that there’s little misunderstanding between Miri Marathon and Sarawak Marathon, so I do not wish to take the risk because being a Mirian, I definitely support and defend the Miri Marathon.

“Miri Marathon had extended much assistance to my Flying Dayak Club and I must help it,” he stated.

Responding to a question, Watson added that the Sarawak Marathon organiser should not force him to accept the offer as its ambassador.

“The Sarawak Marathon only offer the appointment of an ambassador, but as of now,

there’s no agreement made between the two parties concerned,” he added.
