KUCHING: Police arrested a man believed to be involved in an incident where two cars were burnt in front of a flat at Taman Suria Jaya in Matang yesterday.
According to a source, the man was arrested by a Padawan mobile patrol vehicle together with Batu Kawah police personnel, following a report lodged by the suspect’s wife.
A suspect aged 49 years old was arrested to assist investigations under Section 435 of the Penal Code pertaining to mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage.
In the incident, a Perodua Kelisa was totally gutted while another car, a Perodua Myvi, was 30 per cent damaged, both vehicles owned by the couple.
Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Services Station with seven personnel arrived on the scene at 11.29am after receiving a distress call at 10.52am.
No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
In a separate case, according to information from the State Bomba Operation Centre (PGO), a car caught fire at Lorong 1, Jalan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong, Kenyalang Park.
Padungan Fire and Rescue station dispatched seven personnel to the location after receiving a distress call at 3.33am, before arriving at the scene four minutes later.
“Upon arrival, a Proton Saga BLM was 90 per cent burnt as the Bomba personnel extinguished the fire.
The fire was believed to have started from the engine of the car parked in front of the house. It did not spread to the structure of the house while the firemen left an hour later.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
