KUCHING: The crackdown on gambling activities in the state saw 54 people collared in a series of raids carried out from April 11 to 17.

In a press statement yesterday, Crime Investigation Department (CID) Sarawak head SAC Dev Kumar said during the period 41 raids were successfully conducted in 22 districts.

“Many of the raids were led by the district CID chiefs themselves. Our CID headquarters also deployed teams on the ground and conducted four raids,” he said.

He also said 44 people were arrested for illegal character lottery (illegal 4D) in 22 districts.

Besides that, four people were arrested for gambling in public places in Sibu while six were arrested in Kuching for cyber gambling, he added.

Cash totalling RM21,395 believed to be proceeds from the gambling activities were seized besides gambling paraphernalia and exhibits such as mobile phones, portable printers, tablets, calculators and betting slips, he continued.

He further said six districts failed to conduct successful raids but efforts were made to raid and inspect suspected gambling dens in these districts.

He revealed the areas as Kota Samarahan, Simunjan, Betong, Marudi, Song and Belaga.

“The ops against all forms of gambling activities will be ongoing,” said Dev Kumar, assuring that the state CID was determined to bring an end to illegal gambling activities in the state.
