KUCHING: About 300 exponents from various clubs throughout Sarawak competed in the State Taekwondo (WTF) Championship at Dewan Yayasan Sarawak, Semariang from April 16-17.

The two-day sparring tournament, organised by Sarawak Taekwondo Association (WTF), was declared open by Mohamad Irtidzar Razali, who represented permanent secretary to the Social Development Ministry Kameri Affandi.

Also present were Sarawak Taekwondo Association (WTF) president Mohamad Salleh Sani, Sukma assistant chef de mission for taekwondo Azizul Annuar Adenan and state technical chairman Tan Check Joon.

“Having this tournament is an essential aspect of building up the association and grooming new talents, to provide competition environment for the contestants to develop and sharpen their skills, to provide exposure to tournaments and to foster the virtues of etiquette, perseverance, self control, friendship and sportsmanship among all taekwondo exponents from various clubs.

“It is also to prepare the talented players for the coming National Taekwondo (WTF) Championship and short-list potential exponents for Sukma XVIII and various national and international tournaments,” said Salleh.
