KUCHING: Olek Strikes of Kampung Benuk collected RM1,000 and lifted the Willie Mongin Cup last Sunday.
Rimong Crocs, Cuba PKR from Kampung Sikog and Macabbi Arfa of Kampung Annah Rais finished runner-up, third and fourth respectively.
Thirty-two teams competed in the tournament which started at the end of March.
Willie, who is Bengoh PKR chairman, hoped the Football Association of Sarawak officials would use the tournament as another platform to pick new talent..
“We organise this event to gather all the youth and give them the opportunity to showcase their talent,” he said on Sunday.
“Apart from that, this is also to encourage them to involve in healthy lifestyle activities and to avoid negative peer pressure.”
He added that he was also emphasising education and exposure for youths.
“We want the people, particularly the youth, to be well equipped to face the challenges outside there. For example the computer classes as a preparation for the students before entering the college or university.”
