SIBU: Some 6,000 people are expected to attend the official opening of the RM32.3-million Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi tomorrow afternoon.

In stating this at a press conference here yesterday, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said Ahmad Zahid would arrive at the open mall of Sibu Central Market for the ceremony at 4pm.

He also said Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh would represent Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem at the ceremony.

“The Deputy Prime Minister will do a walkabout at UTC, visiting the various government agencies after the launching ceremony.

“UTC is a notable initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) to provide centralised core government services, public amenities and private sector services to the urban communities,” Tiong said.

“It is part of the strategy to enhance and improve efficient services to the people under the One-Stop Centre Concept,” he added.

Meanwhile, SMC acting secretary Morshidi Frederick said: “UTC is another project under NBOS to serve as a centralised centre for various government agencies to offer their services.

“The public, for instance, can conveniently obtain services such as issuance or renewal of MyKad and passports among others.

“There is a 1Malaysia Clinic (K1M) which also provides dental services.”

The opening ceremony will include entertainment and a lucky draw.

Council engineer Tony Wong, meanwhile, said P1, P2 and P2A of the multi-storey car park had been reserved for selected guests.
