KUALA LUMPUR: In one of its biggest successes against drug trafficking syndicates, the Bukit Aman police uncovered two large-scale Syabu processing laboratories and chemical stores in Shah Alam, Selangor and Hutan Melintang, Perak.

In the eight raids between early yesterday and this morning, the Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) seized 239kg of syabu and other India-imported drug ingredients worth a total of RM36 million.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said initial investigations revealed the ingredients were smuggled from India to process the party drug (syabu) and market it in Malaysia.

He said 10 Malaysians, including a chemist, were detained to facilitate investigations into the drug seizure.

Also seized were 150 pills believed to be Erimin 5.

He said the chemist allegedly played an important role in the two laboratories as he had the ‘expertise’ to process liquid syabu.

“The large amount of drugs seized can be supplied to 12 million addicts,” Khalid told reporters here yesterday.

Khalid said the police also seized RM2.8 million found stored in a vault, Indian rupees Rp78,000 (RM4,600) and jewellery comprising necklaces, rings, bracelets, pendants and ear-rings.

The police confiscated 12 cars and two motorcycles belonging to the 10 men, aged between 23 and 42.

They have been remanded for seven days until April 26.

Meanwhile, Khalid said between Jan 1 and April 17, the police arrested 60,594 locals and 2,788 foreigners in drug-related offences nationwide.

During the same period, various drugs worth RM65.64 million were also seized. — Bernama
