SIBU: Barisan Nasional has always featured electoral candidates from a good mix of professional backgrounds, and it is no different for the May 7 Sarawak polls.

State Housing and Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg noted that BN had in the past fielded, among others, lawyers, medical specialists, economists and engineers as well as those with religious backgrounds.

“This 11th state election, the mix is there again,” he told reporters after closing an Islamic leadership and family course here yesterday.

The PBB deputy president said this pointed to the BN’s seriousness in wanting to provide a dynamic and progressive leadership for the benefit of the people.

In his speech, Abang Johari stressed the need for the next echelon of leaders in the state to be knowledgeable and continue to treat all communities in a fair manner.

On another matter, Abang Johari said the more than 180-year-old Masjid Al-Qadim here, one of the state’s oldest, would undergo restoration. — Bernama
