BENTONG: The government respects the decision of Christoph Mueller to resign as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) before his three-year contract ends.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai urged the people not to speculate on the reasons for Mueller’s decision to resign, including not being able to deal with various issues and local politics.

“Mueller has sincerely and frankly said the decision was due to personal and family problems. He is still committed to help the airline which still has a bright future ahead,” he said.

Liow said this to reporters after officiating the Outstanding Academic Awards 2015 and the School-level Anti-Drug Week here yesterday.

He thanked Mueller for his intention to remain as a non-executive director of MAB.

“This shows that he is committed to the restructuring and recovery of the airline and will offer whatever help that is needed,” he said.

Liow said Khazanah Nasional Bhd will decide on Mueller’s replacement within six months. — Bernama
