KUCHING: 1st Fire Rescue Sdn Bhd is offering three fire extinguishers which are easy to handle.

The team is promoting the products at Sejiwa Senada Matang this weekend.

Company director Adrian Chai said property and vehicular fires are occurring with alarming frequency, resulting in millions of ringgit in losses and, sometimes, injury or death.

“This fire extinguisher is being used in countries such as Spain, Turkey, France, Korea, Indonesia and Myanmar. It is selling well across China, where its principal company is located. It has also been approved as a secondary extinguisher in Malaysia by the Fire and Rescue Department,” he told reporters.

The smallest product is powder-based, while the other two are foam-based.

“It only activates by fire, and not by heat,” Chai said, explaining that each of the extinguishers has a fast-burning fuse that can only be triggered by a flame.

According to field demonstrations, the ABC Super Fine Powder Extinguisher, which can be pre-installed under the hood of a car, can put out a fire seconds after it starts.

A new generation dry powder fire extinguisher, it can be mounted to a vertical or overhead surface for an effective protection space of one metre, which is perfect for small spaces such as under the hood of a car.

The one-litre Foam Fire Extinguisher is suitable for spaces such as kitchen stove, gas cylinder or near household items that are at greater risk of igniting, such as active extension cords and power outlets.

The four-litre unit covers more ground, making it the best choice for larger areas or for general fire-fighting use.

The unit is also portable and can be rushed to the scene by hand, but Chai emphasised that the best application for all the products is for prevention.

In demonstration videos, these extinguishers are used in industrial fire scenarios to show how the auto-sensing feature responds in mere seconds – five or six times faster than the common fire extinguisher.

“In addition, it’s maintenance free and more economic, environmentally friendly, pollution free and energy saving. It contains no poisonous, hazardous or corrosive contents. It can be used to prevent and extinguish class A, B, C and E fires,” said Chai.

He recommended the ABC Super Fine Powder Extinguisher be replaced every three years, while the foam version should be replaced every five years for optimal protection.
