Mohamad Junaidi Sambang (fourth left) and other PBB Bandong Youth members have lodged a police report against Malaysiakini reporter Kow Gah Chie.

SIBU: A police report has been lodged by PBB Bandong Youth Section today (April 23) against a Malaysiakini reporter regarding her recent news article on Nangka incumbent Dr Annuar Rapaee’s speech on Thursday.

Bandong Youth chief Mohamad Junaidi Sambang lodged the report at noon, claiming that Dr Annuar’s words were deliberately “twisted” to hurt the harmony and unity of the people of Sarawak.

In his report, they wanted the police and Multimedia and Communication Commission to investigate the incident, saying: “We do not want such extremism imported into Sarawak. We hope the authorities will look into this case and bar extreme people, including the reporter, from Sarawak.”

Mohamad Junaidi said the report written by Malaysiakini newswoman Kow Gah Chie had quoted Dr Annuar by saying that: “Muslims in Sarawak should vote BN in the state election on May 7 so that a Muslim leader can continue to lead the Sarawak government.”

Mohamad Junaidi alleged that the report carried “elements of racism” with “malicious intent” towards the BN candidate (Dr Annuar).

“Sarawak will not accept such a racist statement. The policy of Sarawak is governed by peace, harmony and unity of the people,” he added.

Mohamad Junaidi was accompanied by five other youth members to lodge the report.
