LIMBANG: Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah reminds school authorities to keep their compounds clean at all times especially during the current El Nino phenomenon, to prevent poisonous creatures such as snakes from taking refuge in their premises.

“We all need to take precautions so as to prevent a recurrence of students being bitten by snake in schools,” he said when met by reporters on Saturday after launching the division-level festival of the Education Service Cultural and Sports Association (PSKPP).

Hasbi was commenting on the Education Ministry’s statement to review the safety standard operating procedures (SOP) in schools, following the death of a Primary 1 pupil of SK Dato’ Hashim 1, Kelantan, believed to have been bitten by a venomous snake at the school premises on April 19. Earlier, Deputy Education Minister Datuk P Kamalanathan said the ministry would take the necessary action to tighten the SOP for safety as one of the precautions to prevent such incident from recurring.

Meanwhile, commenting on travel restriction to Sarawak for certain political leaders from Peninsular Malaysia, Hasbi said such move was necessary to ensure the existing peace and harmony in the state prevail.

He pointed out that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem had categorically stated that such restriction was for all persons, irrespective of political parties, who had the likelihood to sow the seed of hatred and disunity among the people.

At the function, Hasbi presented RM5,000 in government grant for the festival which was also attended by Limbang District Education officer Mohamad Tangah and his deputy Suraya Habibollah.

Among the activities held were aerobics session, karaoke, sports and games and cooking competition.
