KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has clarified that the business licence for his daughter’s firearms company was obtained, well before he was appointed the country’s inspector-general of police.

He said the company obtained the licence to repair and maintain firearms before he was appointed to the post.

“I have also prevented them (the company) from bidding for any tender for firearms from the government or police,” he said, adding that the company also did not get any tender for the supply of firearms from the government or police.

“I think it is best if I do not make too many comments as investigations are being carried out into the company … if I say too much, it could jeopardise the investigations,” he added.

Khalid said this at a press conference held after the ‘Bicara Persada bersama Ketua Polis Negara’ programme held at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia here yesterday.

Previously, a news portal had reported that Khalid’s second daughter ran a firearms company in Kuala Lumpur.

According to the portal, the public could buy firearms and get a permit easily through this company. — Bernama
