MCA to regain Kapayan seat in next election – Liow

PENAMPANG: MCA will not give up on its efforts to regain the Kepayan state seat in the next general election (GE).

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the party lost the Kepayan seat in the last election, but the party is confident on regaining the seat with the commitment and hard work of its grassroots leaders.

“We will stand to win back the Kepayan seat which we lost (in GE13),” he vowed.

Liow said this when gracing the ‘Malam Muhibbah Warga Emas Penampang Dan Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat’ event jointly organized by Penampang Fook Tet Kung Temple, Penampang Chinese Welfare Society, MCA Penampang Division and Jawatankuasa Kemasyarakatan Dalam Bandar (JKDB) at the Buhavan Square, Donggongon on Sunday night.

Liow, who is also the Transport Minister, was also pleased to see the close cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in Sabah with government officers and the Penampang District Council.

He said serving the people is not an easy task. The job, he said, requires passion and capability. On that note, Liow said MCA Sabah Liaison Committee deputy president cum Penampang division chairman Datuk Francis Goh has shown his passion, sincerity and determination to serve the people.

“For the past year, MCA Penampang division has been working closely with Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong (MCA deputy president cum State Liaison Committee chairman) in providing outstanding service in Sabah. They also have clear directions to enhance the well-being of the people, especially in terms of education, in Penampang. We see a visionary leader who offers education fund (to students) to ensure the next generation have better learning conditions.”

Hence, Liow urged the people, especially Kepayan voters, to support Goh.

“Not only will MCA central leaders support Goh, the party will also assist him through our influence in other departments.”

Meanwhile, Liow said the State’s economy would take off in the next few years following the launching of the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Sunday.

He also said that the Transport Ministry had allocated RM800 million to upgrade Sepanggar Port to ensure that it becomes a main transhipment port.

The event also saw a donation of RM300,000 each by Perfect (China) Co Ltd through MCA to the Ranau Natural Disaster Committee and SJK(C) Pai Wen, Ranau.

Also present were MCA vice president cum Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong, MCA Wanita chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie, Penampang district officer Luvita Koisun, JKDB Donggongon, Hee Kwok Hung, Institute for Development Studies (IDS) chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Clarence Bongkos Malakun and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College Alumni Association national chairman, Tan Sri Barry Goh Ming Choon.
