BANGI: In efforts to rescue four Malaysians who were kidnapped by four armed men in Pulau Ligitan, Sabah on April 1, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has received positive feedback from the Philippine security authorities.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said this followed a recent meeting involving PDRM’s high-level team with the Philippine authorities where joint plans and action were drawn up to free the victims.

“The PDRM team returned from the Philippines yesterday (Sunday) and will implement (the necessary) action to rescue the victims.

“We are working with the Philippine Army and Police to free the kidnapped Malaysians,” he told a media conference after a programme at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia here yesterday.

On the location of the four Malaysians, Khalid declined to elaborate and wanted the team tasked with the case to investigate first.

In the incident at 6.15pm on April 1, the four Malaysians from a 10-man crew of a tug-boat were kidnapped by a group of armed men who boarded their vessel in the waters near Pulau Ligitan, Semporna, Sabah while returning from the Philippines.

The four, from Sibu, were brothers Wong Teck Kang, 31, Wong Teck Chii, 29, Wong Hung Sing, 34, and Johny Lau Jung Hien, 21. — Bernama
