KUCHING: The Sarawak boxing squad will be camping in Bangkok, Thailand for a second time as part of their preparation for Sukma XVIII.

Sarawak Boxing Association (Saba) president Dato Rahman Lariwoo revealed that the training stint will start from May 20.

“Saba will be sending the boxers for the second training stint in Thailand and that will be the last training for them in facing Sukma XVIII,” he said after a sparring session between the state boxing squad and the boxers of 1 Division in Betong on Sunday.

The first training stint in Bangkok was in January this year.

According to Rahman, the coming stint will be more interesting with the inclusion of local boxing icon Sapok Biki and a world champion from the Philippines Jorven Jordan.

The duo will help train the state boxers together with head coach Fred Mandagi from Indonesia, Filipino Wilbur Andogan and local coach Mohd Herman Musa.

Apart from that, three more Filipino boxers Roilo Golez, Sonney Katiandangho and Roldan Bullong will be coming to Sarawak as sparring partners for the state boxers.

“Jorven will be arriving on May 4 and I believe his and Sapok’s presence will further motivate our boxers to do well in Sukma.

Also present at the sparring session in Betong was 1 Divisyen Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw.
