KUCHING: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Bukit Saban Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has pledged that all areas in the constituency will have public amenities by the end of his first term as its assemblyman.

He said Bukit Saban could now be considered a developed rural constituency.

“If we look at Bukit Saban, it has 95 per cent public amenities where road connectivity is at 98 percent, electricity 95 per cent, and clean water supply 80 per cent,” said Uggah, who is also PBB vice-president.

He revealed this when met by The Borneo Post on the sidelines of the launch of the BN manifesto at PBB headquarters here yesterday, Uggah added that agriculture is one sector that will be given priority as it is the main source of income for rural people.

With farmers in Bukit Saban engaged in the black pepper industry earning around RM5,000 monthly, he said it was time

they be creative and innovative to earn more.

“We will look at embarking on a much simpler but effective means especially to ensure the supply chain is consistent and the market always there,” he said.

He pointed out that education is also an important area to ensure students from the constituency are not left out.

With this in mind, he said several agencies would be brought in to improve the education level in the constituency.

“While Bukit Saban is a BN fortress, I cannot rest on my laurels as we want the chief minister and BN to have a stronger mandate by winning with a bigger majority,” he said.

Uggah, who is on leave from federal duties until March 7, will face Noel Changgai Bucking from PKR.
