KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) will be deploying an additional two new generation patrol vessels to strengthen security and meet any untoward incident in Malaysian waters.

Sabah RMN Regional Two Commander, Rear Admiral Datuk Khairul Anuar Yahya, said the new vessels will be deployed in the eastern and western waters of Sabah to attend to any operational requirements.

“Apart from KD Kedah and KD Perak that are based in Sabah right now, we will deploy the additional two new assets to strengthen security and meet any untoward incidents.

“The new assets will also enable the RMN to establish strong cooperation with other security agencies to ensure that security and sovereignty of the country is preserved,” he said after attending the 82nd Navy Day celebration at Sepanggar Naval Base in Sepanggar yesterday.

According to Khairul, the two additional assets form part of the RMN Fleet Transformation programme.

In a separate development, Khairul expressed his pleasure and honour over the visit of two Japanese Navy warships to the Sepanggar Naval Base since Monday.

“We are honoured that our friends from the Imperial Japanese Navy have docked at our port and as the host, we have invited them to participate in today’s celebration.

“We will also be conducting a joint exercise tomorrow (today) with them as part of our programme to strengthen ties, friendship and cooperation,” he said.
