KUCHING: Sarawak needs a strong team of effective opposition elected representatives in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in the next five years.

PKR’s Batu Lintang incumbent See Chee How said this is to ensure that there is a check and balance as well as to make sure that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem delivers his promises to the people.

See, who is state PKR vice chairman, said while he was sure that Adenan would get to be the chief minister after the May 7 state election, the voters need to ensure that there are people who could act as their watchdog to make sure that all the promises are delivered.

“In the next five years, what we need is a very strong team of effective opposition members in the state assembly to make sure Adenan delivers what he promised.

“Otherwise, if he doesn’t deliver, we will be wasting the next five years,” he said at a rally, here, on Wednesday.

See, who is seeking re-election to be Batu Lintang assemblyman, appealed to voters not only in Batu Lintang, but in all other areas in Sarawak to ensure that they elect a very strong team of opposition members from DAP, PKR and Amanah, as these are the people who can be there to supervise and provide a check and balance in the next five years.

“People like Voon Shiak Ni, our party’s candidate who is contesting in Batu Kitang is a very hardworking candidate and political activist. She champions the rights of women, children and the indigenous people. She is also very passionate about security of the people in all the residential areas.”

“That is why under Voon, during the time when she was not even intended to be a candidate but she helped to set up all the crime watch groups in a lot of residential estates in Kuching and outside Kuching to make sure all these areas have crime watch group so that the security of neighbourhoods are protected.”

See was confident that Voon will be able to do as well as him as an effective elected representative, if she was given the mandate by the Batu Kitang constituents to be their state assemblywoman in the next five years.

“This I can promise you, I will help all of you to monitor her to ensure she delivers her mandate.”
