The girls’ hostel on fire at SMK Tandek yesterday.
KOTA MARUDU: The girls’ hostel at SMK Tandek here were gutted by fire yesterday.
No casualties were reported in the 9.30am incident, said Sabah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Katizah Rahaban.
He said the hostel is located on the third floor of one of the school’s buildings.
“We received a distress call at 9.39am and sent six personnel in two fire engines from Kota Marudu fire station to the scene within minutes.
“The firefighters managed to put the blaze under control by 10.40am and ended the operation around 11.50am,” she said yesterday.
Katizah said that based on initial investigation it was believed that the fire was caused by electric short-circuit but forensic police were still investigating.
The total loss in the fire was estimated at RM200,000.
