TAWAU: All educators and wardens of each primary and secondary school throughout the State should conduct headcount of their students in classroom daily to ensure that no one escapes from class.

Speaking at the presentation of funds and daily necessities to 294 students from primary and secondary schools who lost their homes to recent fire Kg Batu 2 and Kg Titingan here yesterday morning, new State Education Department director Hajah Maimunah Haji Suhaibul said all students should compile their respective schools regulations and procedures, particularly those staying in the school hostel.

Touching on the fire incident that occured at the female hostel of SMK Tandek, Marudu on April 28, she said it would be a lesson to all schools that students staying at hostels should leave their hostels and be punctual for class as stated in standard operation procedures.

Citing an example, she said the fire might hostel students who escaped from class.

Maimunah said the parents should immediately inform the school or teacher if their children were absent for a good reason on a particular day and at the same time the teacher should also do so if they found any student was absent without any notice.

“I hope all these will lighten up the burden of their parents and I also urge the parents to send their children to school without fail.

“There is a dire need for all the fire victims to move forward and take the incident as a lesson. The smart support team of district education department should also continue to assist students who are still in trauma from time to time,” she pointed out.

According to her, the school should set up a task force to help the students (fire victims) in getting back their personal documents.
