KOTA KINABALU: The people should join City Hall (DBKK) cleanliness mission to keep the city clean and its residents healthy, said Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai.

He said DBKK had initiated several efforts including a collaboration with the Kota Kinabalu District Health office for the implementation of the Anti Litter Bug Campaign in pursuit of the Litter Free City goal.

“To realize this campaign, the community must cooperate by practising the cleanliness and gotong royong culture,” said the Mayor.

“The Anti Litter Bug Campaign will be conducted in all schools around Kota Kinabalu with the Kota Kinabalu area health office.

“We want to teach the children and teenagers about the values of environmental cleanliness. A clean and litter free environment will indirectly eradicate the vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria,” he said when launching the Kota Kinabalu City Health Carnival at Padang Merdeka yesterday.

“Efforts to tackle health problems are not the responsibility of the Malaysia Health Department alone.

“It must also be shouldered together by all levels of the community,” he reiterated.

The carnival was jointly organized by DBKK, Inanam Health Clinic Sports and Recreational Club, Sabah International Dynamic Management (SIDMA) College, Sabah Society for the Blind, RTM Sabah, Royal Malaysian Police, Public Works Department, and Kota Kinabalu District Education Office.

SIDMA College also held its corporate social responsibility (CSR) Dining in the Dark program for the first time with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC) Malaysia Sabah Branch Office in conjunction with the carnival.

Among the guests present at the event were Sabah State Health Department (Management) deputy director Toisin Gantor, who represented director Dr Christina Rundi, MOTAC Malaysia Sabah Branch Office director Ahmad Zaki Abu Bakar, and Kota Kinabalu District Health officer Dr Jiloris@Julian Frederick Dony.
