KUCHING: State Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem delivered a speech themed ‘I am Adenan Satem’ on Friday during a rally for the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

Prior to the start of his speech, some supporters led shouts of ‘Hidup BN’ three times.

“I am Adenan Satem, I am not ‘Pek Moh’, white hair. I am Adenan Satem and I do not want Umno to come to Sarawak. I am Adenan Satem, and I keep my promises.

“I am Adenan Satem and I’m in favour of giving assistance to Chinese schools. I am Adenan Satem and I’m in favour of recognising UEC (Unified Examination Certificate). I am Adenan Satem and I do not want the Chinese in Sarawak to be called Pendatang. My name is Adenan Satem, I am in favour of reducing electricity tariffs for Sarawakians,” he told a crowd of thousands at Kuching City Mall.

Adenan also pointed out that he had abolished quit rent as well as toll charges for Baram Bridge, Lanang Bridge and Tun Salahuddin Bridge.

He added that he had also directed the local councils across the state to absorb the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Adenan again stressed that he would follow up on negotiations with Putrajaya on increasing oil and gas royalties to Sarawak from 5 to 20 per cent.

“Five per cent is not enough. So I need a big mandate from the people. If we have the mandate, I will be in a better position to negotiate with Kuala Lumpur,” he explained.

Adenan also called on the people not to be swayed by independent candidates, particularly those who claimed to be supporters of BN.

He pointed out that it was just sour grapes as some of them had not been chosen by the state BN.

Adenan also explained that his administration had allowed Democratic Action Party (DAP) leaders Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng to enter the state because they had behaved themselves.

“The moment they misbehave, I will kick them out. If (PKR president Datuk Seri Dr) Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail) wants to come (to Sarawak), okay, they can write to us,” he said.

Prior to his speech, Adenan sang ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ and ‘The Young Ones’.

Among those present were BN-SUPP candidates Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian (Batu Kawah), Lo Khere Chiang (Batu Kitang), Wilfred Yap (Kota Sentosa) and Peter Pau (Padungan).
