BINTULU: The establishment of the Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS) Bintulu campus is timely as it will provide an opportunity for young Sarawakians to work in the oil and gas sector.

Chief executive officer of Cempaka Majumas Sdn Bhd, Hasnani Masni, said that efforts to train more skilled and semi-skilled youths can be implemented in collaboration with PPKS.

“With this collaboration I hope it will be beneficial to everyone,” he said at the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between Cempaka Majumas Sdn Bhd, PPKS and Talent Grade Sdn Bhd for the establishment of PPKS Bintulu campus here on Friday evening.

The MoU was signed by PPKS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Datuk Hussain, Hasnani and Talent Grade Sdn Bhd chairman Mohamad Azmi Pilus and witnessed by Cempaka Majumas Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Tie Teck Hung and Lau Lian Jing from Talent Grade.

The event was also attended by Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and BN candidate for Tanjong Batu Datuk Pau Chiong Ung.

Pau in his speech said one of the focus areas on his election manifesto is to set up a training centre for oil and gas related industries.

“Over the years I have talked with friends about the establishment of this centre for youths so that they can be trained in the related industries.

“And I’m glad to see the MoU signed by PPKS to establish its campus here as a training centre for oil and gas industry,” he said.

He added Bintulu is known as a centre for oil and gas and over the years there were a small number of skilled and semi-skilled workers from Bintulu in the sector.

“Our young people here do not get the chance of working in the oil and gas sector because they do not have the expertise in this field, even those interested need to go for trainings and courses in Peninsular Malaysia which is costly,” he said.
