About 100,000 people to enjoy reliable treated water supply when new system is completed next year
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Some 100,000 people in Asajaya, Sebangan, Sebuyau, Siburan and Beratok will enjoy reliable treated water supply by end of next year.
State director of Rural Water Supply Department Daniel Wong Park Ing said this would be made possible with the RM79.8-million project to connect Bukit Entinggan water tank with Batu Kitang water treatment plant.
“By 2030, it is estimated that 166,500 people in Asajaya, Sebangan, Sebuyau, Siburan and Beratok will benefit from the project, which enhances the reliability of the water supply.
“The present capacity is not enough to cater for the increasing population. The system is so old that a lot of disruptions happen and whenever there is prolonged dry spell, there won’t be sufficient water for these areas,” he said when met by reporters after Minister of Public Utilities Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan launched the project near Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia here yesterday. Wong added that the project would be due for completion on Nov 24, 2017.
In his speech at the launch, Awang Tengah said the project was timely due to the constant low water pressure faced by the people in the areas.
“With this project, we will supply water directly from Batu Kitang water treatment plant. Once it is completed, low water pressure will be a problem in the past.”
On another matter, he said Samarahan Division had changed a lot, with more villages equipped with basic amenities.
“This is all because of the planning and implementation of projects by the government, which works closely with the private sector to develop more commercial areas and housing estates. The government will carry on with such effort so as to ensure that Samarahan will continue to be an education hub for the betterment of our children.”
He was pleased to see that more people of Samarahan particularly those from villages were now owning shoplots and running restaurants. He assured that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government would continue to bring about more economic development to the division so that no rural individual would be left behind.
Also present at the launch were Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang, BN candidate for Stakan Dato Sri Mohammad Ali Mahmud and BN candidate for Muara Tuang Datuk Idris Buang.
