KUCHING: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has said that he will not send in a formal request to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s administration seeking an extension for his stay in Sarawak.
“(The) Sarawak chief minister, by setting a time frame that I leave the state by May 5, is abusing his power. Requesting me to write in a formal request is no different than legitimising his abuse of power,” he told reporters after a walkabout in Mile 10 here today (May 2).
Lim, who is also national DAP secretary general, said he respected the immigration right of Sarawak to bar people from entering the state and would leave the state as requested.
“I will leave on May 5 because I don’t want to legitimise his abuse of power. So I won’t write in a formal request.”
He disclosed that the DAP’s legal team would consider challenging the abuse of immigration power exercised by Adenan.
“I am not questioning the power of Sarawak to bar anyone from coming in. I am only challenging his abuse of power and will take him on after the election.”
Sarawak should not impose an entry ban on individuals who wanted to be in the state for legitimate political activities, he reiterated.
“We have candidates contesting here and the Election Commission has accepted our candidates; our political activities are 100 per cent legitimate.”
DAP Sarawak has 31 candidates contesting in the state election.
