KUCHING: Police will deploy a total of 1,302 trainees and 379 trainers from Kuching Police Training Centre (Pulapol) at the polling centres on May 7, said state police commissioner Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman.

Speaking to the media after giving a briefing at Pulapol, Jalan Puncak Borneo here yesterday, he said the trainees were ready to assist in the state election.

He added that the trainees had been given courses related to the election to enable them carry out their tasks effectively.

“All of them had been exposed during courses given including the Police Act, Election Act and related laws. They are being deployed to assist the state contingent to keep order, at the same time we save cost and logistics,” he said.

He also disclosed a total of 74 police reports had been received as at yesterday with regard to the election, of which 46 were being investigated. The rest of the reports, he said, were handed over to related agencies including the Election Commission.

“There is nothing serious but only minor issues in the report. Most of the reports are about vandalism committed on the campaign materials like burning, smearing or tearing down of banners,” Sabtu added.

On a related matter, Sabtu disclosed that a total of 9,909 police personnel were early voters who would cast their votes today. Also present were Pulapol commandent ACP Azman Salim and Padawan police chief Ng Ah Lek.
