200 narcotics inmates undergo rehabilitation

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: A total of 200 inmates involved in cases of narcotics and illegal drugs undergoing rehabilitation implemented by the South Kalimantan National Narcotics Agency (BNNP), AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“The rehabilitation of hundreds of inmates is a collaboration between Division of Correctional of South Kalimantan Office of Justice and Human Rights Ministry (Kemenkumham) and BNNP,” said Head of the Division of Corrections Kemenkumham Harun Sulianto here on Monday.

He said 200 prisoners were all derive from prisons and the house of detention (rutan) in South Kalimantan.

For the initial stage there are 68 inmates of Karang Intan prisons and 38 inmates come from Kotabaru prison to be rehabilatated.

According to Harun, the goal of rehabilitation in order convicts in the future can be agents of change to tell everyone not to abuse drugs.

“They will all be agents of change to resist and fight against drugs and convey to the public not to engage in drug abuse,” he said.

He said the activities of inpatient rehabilitation will last for three months and followed by a drug abuser inmates.

“Participants of this program mostly inmates who will be free in less than three to six months. They previously had to undergo psychological and medical assessment by the instructors of BNNP and prison officers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chief BNNP Commissioner Arnowo in Banjarmasin asked each participant to be a good person, a responsible householder and be a good example in the family and society.
