KOTA KINABALU: A 19-year-old youth died after he was stabbed with a knife by a fellow occupant in a squatter house late Sunday night.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra disclosed that the incident took place about 11.30pm at an unnumbered squatter house at Kampung Rampayan, Menggatal, near here.

The victim was staying at the house with his aunt’s family of four, including her husband and two small children, as well as another occupant who is said to be the family’s ‘abang angkat’ (adopted or foster brother). They had been staying together for the past one month.

It was reported that the main occupant of the house, who is also the main witness of the incident, together with his wife and two children had gone to bed inside the only bedroom in the house.

As usual, before doing so, he had ensured that his wife’s nephew and the adopted brother slept in the living room of the house.

At about 11.30pm, the man had his sleep interrupted by some noise coming from the living room of his house. When he went out to see what happened, he saw that the suspect had a knife in his hand while the nephew was lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor.

Seeing this, the witness with the help of neighbours, detained the suspect.

Police were informed by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital about 11.55pm of the death of the victim from injuries sustained from a knife stab wound.

Chandra said the motive of the murder had yet to be ascertained.

Police had arrested the suspect for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
