SIBU: Mischievous persons ‘rampaged’ through Bawang Assan villages in the town’s West Bank to destroy election posters, banners and billboards of direct Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh on Sunday night.

Villagers woke up yesterday to see the posters and boards pushed down, burnt and torn.

One burnt banner at the 1Malaysia Clinic almost set a building aflame.

There was no evidence, yet it seemed that this attempt was to bring down the reputed image of Wong.

However, Wong’s election workers were concerned that the mischief had disrupted the peaceful order of the election campaign.

Pau Kiew Kwong of BN Bawang Assan operations room lodged a police report yesterday morning, saying several posters, banners and billboards were destroyed.

Those destroyed included the banners, posters and billboards at Sungai Bidut Roundabout, Bawang Assan Road 3, New Maling Road, Tai Sing Road, 1Makaysia Clinic, Ling Chu Ming Road and Toh Nang Road.

Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, some billboards of direct BN candidate for Pelawan, Janet Lau were also destroyed.

Although a report was lodged on Saturday, Toh Jack Kuong of BN Pelawan operations room said Janet had chosen to forgive the perpetrators and would not pursue the matter.

He said what was important now was to bring the people in Pelawan together towards the aspirations of TeamAdenan.

“There is no moment to lose in the race,” said Janet during a ceramah in Delta Estate on Sunday night.
