KUCHING: Sarawak got off to a golden start in the 39th Malaysian International Open at Sunway Megalanes, Sunway Pyramid, Kuala Lumpur yesterday when Mohd Zuhayr Redza Noor Azrul won the Boys Graded title.

The Unit Sukan Prestasi Tinggi Negeri Sarawak AAA bowler downed 1, 715 pinfalls for an average of 214 to beat 18 other fimalists.

Second was Muhd Rhafiq Mat Rahim from Negeri Sembilan with 1,667 pinfalls and in third spot was Johor’s Muhd Adib Danial Dato Azizan from Johor with 1,639.

Meanwhile, Sukma bowler Nur Aina Kamalia finished third in the Girls Graded division with a total of 1,618 averaging 202 over eight games.

Afiaqah Rahman Mohd Yazid captured the title while Najwa Najirah from Kuala Lumpur finished in second spot.

The qualifying rounds for the Youth Open divisions is still on going with another State Sukma bowler Musayyar Khalid currently in pole position while Christopher Tiong, Jocelyna Judith Jonathan, Nur Syafiqah Sajeli, Muhd Uzair Irsyad and Anthony Luang Cheng are in the mixed pool.

The finals will be on Friday.
