KOTA KINABALU: The four Sarawakians who were abducted by Abu Sayyaf militants are safe and being treated well, said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Police investigations believe that Wong Teck Kang, 31, his younger brother Wong Teck Chii, 29, Wong Hung Sing, 34 and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21, are safe but their whereabouts are still not known.

“All I can say is that they are safe and are being treated well by their abductors.

“We are doing all we can to free and bring them home safely.

“So I do not want to comment further as it could jeopardise their safety. Let us do our job,” said Khalid today (May 4).

It is also learnt that the kidnappers have been moving from one location to another in the vicinity of Jolo Island in the Philippines to avoid detection.

The four Malaysians from Sibu were abducted by masked gunmen from their MV Massive 6 tugboat on April 2 while returning to Tawau after delivering timber cargo to Manila.

Three Burmese along with two Indonesian crewmen were spared by the gunmen.
