MARUDI: Observers here believe that Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Telang Usan, Dennis Ngau will likely retain his seat. Dennis is in a straight fight with Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Roland Engan.

Pensioner Gabriel Ding Jau, 66, pointed out that Rumah Long Atip, which had 425 eligible voters, had pledged its support for Dennis.

“We promised that this round, Long Atip will make the wind of change and our vision is we want BN to win the election because only BN can bring development to us in the rural areas,” he said yesterday.

Gabriel called on all Long Atip folk to return and cast their votes on Saturday.

“This is our duty and responsibility once in five years,” he said.

Former headmaster Jeffery Jok, 65, also agreed that BN had the advantage in Telang 2Usan.

“I am a Telang Usan voter. I want to vote for a Kayan representative as all the small races have their own elected representative, so we want and wish for Dennis Ngau to win on May 7.”

Long Bemang voter Mujan Lah, 44, also predicted a win for Dennis.

“The BN candidate is sure to win the election but the total of the majority is yet to be predicted as there are still a few more days for the campaigners from both parties to promote their strengths,” she said.

“At Long Bemang, a Kayan longhouse there are 926 voters. I hope this round we will see BN in the person of Dennis Ngau win. Dennis Ngau has brought a lot of development to Long Bemang and he even brought Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to Long Bemang early this year.”

There are 10,000 voters in the Telang Usan constituency.
