SIBU: Sibu Lorry Association members on Sunday showed their support for TeamAdenan to reciprocate the care local BN representatives had shown for their cargo transport business over the years.

During a dialogue at their premises in Sungai Antu with Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and Datuk Janet Lau, association chairman Ling Kee Chuong listed Wong and the late Datuk Robert Lau (Janet’s husband) as the two who had worked with them to see their business prosper.

He said the two had granted them land from the government, and because of this, the association had two plots now for parking and safekeeping of their trucks.

“This is the care of the state government through Dato Sri Wong and the late Datuk Lau. Not many governments elsewhere would go to such an extent to help commoners. This gratitude has been in our hearts for more than two decades, when the first plot in Sungai Antu was given to us.”

Ling said the plot in Sungai Merah belonged to the state government, and because of the urgency of their need, the government let them use it.

The government, he added, would only take it back when there was urgent need for it.

“Until this day, this land is still with us, and as our members are expanding, we soon found the plot insufficient.”

He said through Wong, they obtained another plot in Warrisan Road for expansion of their business.

“Now, we have two plots for parking and safekeeping of our trucks. To lighten our financial burden, the state government, through Wong, contributed stones for the building of our second station.”

Ling said ever since Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem helmed the state, the people had benefitted much.

“Definitely, this is the government that we want to form through our democratic system. We shall support BN candidates.”

The event was especially meaningful for Janet, who witnessed once again the seed her late husband had sown in community building.

“The people and I reap the fruits today. I shall continue this work because there is still a lot that the late Datuk Robert Lau had not accomplished. He wanted me to continue.”

Janet is standing as a direct BN candidate in Pelawan – the biggest state constituency in Sarawak with over 32,000 voters, of which 97 per cent are Chinese.

Wong is defending his Bawang Assan seat as a BN direct candidate.

Janet said: “I am happy to see the smiling faces of the lorry owners today. This is the care that the government has interest in.”

She said she was there when her husband helped the lorry owners, and she had been giving all the support as a wife.

“I am even happier to learn the government has continued to help, and now, the lorry owners have their second station at Warrisan Road through Dato Sri Wong.”

Janet assured those present that TeamAdenan was people-friendly, and it had the heart for the people of Sarawak.

“We shall bring the people together to work together in the spirit of Sarawak. It’s a people government.”

Meanwhile, Wong appealed for the constituents not to dilute the people’s power in the state government.

He said in Sibu BN Visionary Team, there were two MPs and four state assemblymen to back up Sibu’s development and the needs of the people.

“Now, I am the only Chinese member in the State Cabinet. It is tiring to work alone.”

He called on Sibu folk to increase their power in the government so that more could be done.

Wong said there were still a lot to be done for Sibu, such as developing its higher education, resolving problems faced by vegetable farmers, and the on-going flood mitigation plan.

“We have the vision. We need a stronger representation in TeamAdenan.”
