SRI AMAN: Candidates with high calibre and strong commitment to bring about progress, as opposed to the ‘fly-by-night’ election hopefuls, are the ones that can contribute to the state’s administration and should be elected come polling day.

This is because the state is in need of committed leaders with distinction and quality to be part of the government and contribute to its development agenda, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

“This state election is serious. It needs candidates who are ready to serve the people, not ‘parachute candidates’ or fly-by-night candidates. To form a strong government, we need candidates who are serious, not the happy-go-lucky types or even the half-hearted ones,” the national Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said during his visit to Rh Faizal Edmund Minit in Engkeramut, some 40km from here yesterday.

The prime minister was accompanied by Datuk Mong Dagang, the BN candidate for Bukit Begunan, and Deputy Home Minister Masir Kujat, who is also Sri Aman MP.

In his speech, Najib called on voters in Sri Aman to vote for BN and give Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem a mandate of five more years to ensure continuous implementation of the state’s development agendas.

“When the people look up to BN for development, they can rest assured that our proposed development agendas will be carried out to ensure the people of Sarawak will not be left behind,” he continued.

At the event, Najib announced an allocation of RM200,000 to repair and upgrade the longhouse which has 253 residents. He also approved an allocation for the construction of a new school block for SK Bakong.
