15 Indonesian detained for involvement in armed gang robbery

MELAKA: Melaka police crippled an armed robbery gang known as ‘Geng Rantau Muin’ with the arrest of 15 Indonesian men including the gang leader known as Muin on Monday, said State Police Chief Datuk Ramli Din.

He said all the men, aged between 22 to 42, were detained in three separate arrests around the Melaka Tengah district, where the first arrest involving four gang members including Muin, aged 24, was made in a car in the Taman Merdeka area, here at about 6am.

“The men were detained as policemen conducting a patrol suspected the action of the car stopping by the roadside before policemen approached them for inspection.

“They tried to flee but were apprehended. Following inspection, we found several valuable items believed to be part of the loot from armed robberies,” he told a media conference, here yesterday.

He said that following further investigation, police made a second arrest  involving another car with four gang members near the area about two hours later.

Ramli said the third arrest involved seven members of the gang at a flat in Cheng at about 9am and following interrogation, police found several weapons including parang, knives, steel cutters, knuckledusters and gloves in a bush in Batu Berendam, here.

Police also seized several valuable items including several laptop computers, watches, handphones, cameras and more than RM19,000 in cash which were hidden including in a shophouse in Taman Merdeka, he added. — Bernama
