KUCHING: DAP candidate for Kota Sentosa Chong Chieng Jen has urged his opponents not to use underhand tactics by hacking their candidates’ handphones and sending false messages to the people.

He said the messages in Chinese were aimed at alienating them from non-Chinese supporters.

He said their tactics included the barring of Peninsula DAP leaders from entering Sarawak, importing Peninsula-based soldiers and their families as voters for Barisan Nasional, hacking of their Facebook accounts with posts of many smearing comments and using government machinery and the people’s money to get their votes.

He also said Barisan Nasional (BN) also used an unfair psychology by saying that BN-SUPP candidate for Batu Kawah Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian would become deputy chief minister if he won in the May 7 election. Chong believed this would not help in fighting for Chinese’s rights and welfare.

He said during their best time when they had many seats, they were already not powerful enough and their rights diminished and not favoured by BN.

What more would they say when they we were weak and had less seats, Chong said.

“They have no say in the government. This is a trick to fish for the people’s votes and this is insulting the voters’ wisdom,” he told a press conference at DAP headquarters here yesterday.

Chong, who is also state DAP chairman, said the party would not accept Sri Aman independent candidate Datuk Dr Ngu Piew Seng if he won in this election.

“DAP will not accept someone who stand against our candidate, then turn around and ask to join DAP. We have members and canditates who work hard in their respective areas. Those who stand against our candidates means they stand against the whole DAP. We do not consider letting them join DAP,” he said.

Commenting on BN’s statement saying that if DAP won in the state election, they would abolish the goods and sales tax (GST), but why did the Penang and Selangor state governments did not abolish GST.

Chong said BN twisted DAP’s words. He said winning this state election would have an impact on the next general election.

If the opposition were to form the federal government, it could abolish or implement zero per cent GST, he said.

On another subject, Chong urged PKR to review its involvement in the three-cornered contest in Batu Kitang. Chong urged PKR to look at the big picture and withdraw because DAP candidate for the seat, Abdul Aziz Isa, had a good chance to win due to his popularity.

His support rate has increased from 45 per cent to 49 per cent of late, he said.
