KUCHING: Over 65 staff of Naim Group Companies’ Miri office took part in a tree-planting activity at Piasau Nature Reserve (PNR) Miri recently.

The educational activity was part of a collaboration between Naim and the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) for an environment conservation and awareness programme commencing 2015.

Complex manager for Permy Mall, Thadeus Sia said: “Besides doing our part for the environment, we want to inculcate the mindset among our staff that environmental conservation is everyone’s responsibility, and that all of us can play a part in this noble cause for the good of ourselves and our future generation.

“We planted about 200 seedlings of ‘Bintangor Laut’ trees. It took only about 20 minutes to do so due to great teamwork,” he said in a press statement.

FDS executive forester Hwang Chiong Hee commended Naim for its efforts in conservation activities.

“PNR is located within the vicinity of Miri city centre, and is a popular recreation area for Miri residents. Although the Park was gazetted in 2014 to protect endangered fauna such as the Oriental Pied Hornbill, it was the target of illegal loggers before it was gazetted.

“As such, it is important for us to re-plant the trees to preserve the nature reserve. We appreciate the efforts for this activity by Naim volunteers and look forward to more such initiatives in time to come,” he said.

Among those in attendance were Karen Beverley Seem from Sarawak Forestry Corporation and 15 representatives from FDS.
