Sarawakiana carnival this year features many exciting activities

MIRI: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, together with Miri City Council (MCC) is organising the third Sarawakiana Carnival here from May 20 until 22 to commemorate Miri City 11th Anniversary and Miri May Fest.

The carnival’s main objective is to create awareness and promote the state’s diverse culture and heritage. MCC will also launch its ‘Say No to Plastic Bag’ campaign during the carnival on May 21.

Among the many activities planned are knowledge sharing on Behind The Making of Sarawakiana Series – Kedayan’s Makan Tahun, exhibition and knowledge sharing on ‘Memories of Los (Lodge) Miri’, traditional dance demonstrations, a movie marathon for kids and ethnic food cooking demonstrations.

There will also be a Bermukun (Sarawak Malay metrical verses and lively dance) competition, traditional children song contest and traditional Sarawak cooking and dish arrangement.

The carnival will also showcase food, products and services from 20 cottage industry entrepreneurs. In addition, telecommunication companies will also participate in the ‘Communication Networks & Us’ sessions.

The three-day carninval will start at 8am daily and the official opening is on May 21 at 7.30pm. Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang is expected to grace the opening as well as the finals of the Bermukun competition.
