SIBU: Trainees of National Service Training Programme 2.0 (PLKN 2.0) can be better than university graduates after their training stints.

Deputy Defence Minister Dato Wira Mohamad Johari Baharum said this was because the trainees were also offered technical skills during training.

“Skilled workforce is in great demand now to make Malaysia a developed country.

“PLKN 2.0 had undergone some transformation to its module and this included skills training for the trainees,” he said when officiating at a programme with National Service Volunteer Brigade at PLKN Bumimas camp in Sibu Jaya here yesterday.

On another matter, Mohamad Johari advised the trainees to use their wisdom to evaluate information disseminated on social media.

He said social media can do more good than harm if not used wisely.

“Malaysia is not like China where certain social media like Facebook is banned. But we want the youngsters to be wise with information they get by knowing how to compare between the good and the bad,” he said.

A total of 273 PLKN 2.0 trainees were selected to undergo training at Bumimas camp from Feb 26 to May 25.

Bumimas camp operator Ho Su Yen and Ministry of Defence deputy secretary-general Datuk Mohammad Foad Abdullah were among those present.
