ENGKILILI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak promised to approve the budget for upgrading work on Ulu Skrang road soon.

During a leader-meet-the-people event held at Pais longhouse, Skrang today (May 5) he said he would announce the budget allocation for the road, once costing for the project was done.

“We have to look at how much the project would cost. If the cost is high, then we will need to allocate the budget in stages such as giving out the budget to build the road twice or something,” he said.

According to direct BN candidate for Engkilili Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa who also spoke during the event, the road needs an upgrade as it is currently sub-standard, with no tar-seal and some parts not even gravelled yet.

The road is crucial for villagers living in the Ulu Skrang area as it serves 28 longhouses and three schools located along the road.

Unofficial sources revealed that the Ulu Skrang road’s upgrading work is estimated to be RM28 million.

First constructed in 2012, the Ulu Skrang road spans 50km.
