KUCHING: A total of 130 election-related cases, including two involving suspected bribery, have been reported throughout the campaigning period.

According to state police commissioner Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman, 75 of these cases are under investigation.

Despite the number of reported cases, Sabtu defined incidents throughout the campaigning period as not serious.

“Most cases we received thus far had involved vandalism of posters and banners of both sides of the political divide.

“We also received one report of an individual campaigning without permit and two cases of suspected bribery. The situation overall is smooth sailing,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters, Jalan Badruddin here today.

Sabtu added that the police will be on full alert for any incidents on polling day. Apart from maintaining the peace and traffic flow at polling centres statewide, the police are also on the lookout for illegal betting ring.

Uniformed and plain cloth officers will be on duty to monitor the polling process this Saturday.
