MIRI: The Land and Survey Department has already approved 1,020 agriculture lots in Kampung Berawan in Bakam and Kampung Lusut here.

In disclosing this, Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this proves the government’s desire to accord land ownership to people in the state.

Speaking at the ceremony to present resettlement lot offer letters, gazettes for Communal Reserves under Section 6 of the Land Code, Village Settlement (Section 7), individual land titles under Section 18 for perpetuity leasehold for traditional village and Phase 2 of new initiative of NCR land settlement at Mega Hotel yesterday, he also said the titles would be issued after they have been processed by the department.

The offer letters were presented to 373 residents of Tudan Desaras Resettlement Scheme.

The communal reserves gazettes were presented to Kampung Kuala Suai (488 ha), Batang Baram and Sungai Patah (1,618 ha) and Kampung Long Batang, Baram (608 ha) while the traditional village reserves gazettes were for Lusut, Ulu Sungai Dalam.

The perpetuity leasehold individual land titles were for traditional villages of Kampung Batu 8 (37) and Kampung Sebalik Tiris (67).

Awang Tengah said the titles and land gazettes are legal proof of ownership and the cost of survey were borne by the government, pointing out this showed that BN is a responsible and caring government that understands the needs of the people.

“Surveys are free, land titles are issued free for the people. The BN government has always been sensitive to the needs and aspirations of the people, including squatters in the state,” he said.

On another matter, he called on the people in northern Sarawak to be united in their support for BN and vote for Team Adenan for a brighter future.

Earlier in his speech, Miri divisional superintendent Of Land and Survey Department, Unus Tambi, said the presentation of gazettes, land titles and resettlement lot offers proved that the government is committed in recognising the needs and rights of the people.

“The allegations of government taking away land don’t hold water,” he told the crowd.

Also present were BN candidates Datuk Hii King Chiong (Pujut), Datuk Sebastian Ting (Piasau), Datuk Lee Kim Shin (Senadin), Ripin Lamat (Lambir) and Land and Survey Department state director Datuk Sajeli Kipli.
