KOTA KINABALU: Police will be working closely with City Hall (DBKK) to eradicate illegal immigrants in Inanam that somehow have contributed to illegal cigarette peddling in the township.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said police would hold a meeting with DBKK to find a solution to the problem.

“We have received several complaints from the public about the existence of illegal immigrants who have caused some problems in Inanam Township.

“Police also believe that the existence of illegal cigarette peddlers is partly caused by illegal immigrants who continue to sell the contraband items to the public,” he said when met at the meet-the-public program at Inanam Township, here yesterday.

Also present were Crime Investigation Department chief DSP Nor Azizulkifli Mansor and Crime Prevention and Community Safety Centre chief DSP Kalsom Idris.

Chandra said based on investigation police believed these illegal immigrants were still staying at illegal squatter areas and efforts would be taken to flush them out.

“We will continue to carry out operations to flush them out,” he said, adding that about 11 out of 21 complaints received in yesterday’s program concern illegal immigrants.
