“That growth is a comparison to the same period last year,” said Head of Regional Balance and Statistical Analysis of BPS South Kalimantan Awang Pramina in Banjarbaru, Wednesday.

He said when compared to the previous quarter, the economy of South Kalimantan had decreased by 4.92 percent due to a decrease in the production of a number of categories.

The decrease in production derived from mining and quarrying, agriculture, forestry and fishery categories, including trade.

“In terms of expenditure, the biggest cause occurs in a government consumption component,” said Awang, who was accompanied by Head of Social Agnes Setiawati.

The first quarter PDRB when compared to the same period last year shows that the aggregate economy remains relatively stagnant at 3.97 percent.

“The whole category grow positively, except mining and quarrying, in particular the subcategories of oil and gas, coal and chemical industry,” he said.

According to him, major contributors to the growth is the manufacturing industry by 1.5 percent, retail trade 0.63 percent and public administration 0.47 percent.

“Processing industry is growing positively along with increasing in timber industry and some oil palm processing company that began operating and at the same producing,” he said.
