SELANGAU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday said he would assist Selangau people to the tune of a new secondary school, a fire rescue station, a government complex and quarters.

He said he would inform the prime minister about their applications for these facilities. He was speaking during his walkabout in Selangau bazaar.

“Though this is my first visit to Selangau, but I can understand the needs of kampong people since I too was from a kampong,” he said.

“We got to develop Selangau because we do not want it to be lagging behind,” he assured Selangau folk.

Meanwhile, Zahid urged voters in Tamin to support BN candidate Christopher Gira to ensure development projects in Tamin could be implemented speedily.

He said the BN government was always committed towards rural development and wanted the Selangau bazaar to progress.

“Support Tok Nan, support Christopher Gira. Support Christopher Gira, support Tok Nan. If you all love Tok Nan, you must choose this candidate who is a member of team Adenan,” Zahid said.

He said he would expedite developments for the people in Tamin area if Christopher was elected.

Christopher had earlier applied to Zahid to consider building a federal government complex, government quarters, a fire station and a secondary school.

Zahid said applications for these facilities would not be approved at this election time lest the opposition should construe it as money politics.

Tamin constituency, which has 14,948 registered voters, is seeing a three-cornered fight. The other two candidates are Independent Dr Ali Puji and Simon Joseph of PKR.
