KUALA LUMPUR: The ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia has contributed RM450,000 to the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and PERMATApintar National Gifted Centre to boost talents in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Out of the total, RM300,000 was granted as sponsorship for the ASM’s annual National Science Challenge while the remaining was for PERMATApintar to select and train the Malaysian contingent to the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Chairman See Kok Yew said the group strongly encouraged the young people to consider careers in STEM fields, in line with the country’s aspiration of becoming a high-income nation, driven by science and technology.

“Improving mathematics and science proficiency among our young people is essential at ensuring a skilled workforce and our nation’s competitiveness in the global marketplace,” he said at the sponsorship presentation here yesterday.

Also present was Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah. — Bernama
