PAKAN: Re-elected Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom may be joining PBB now that all members of the six units under Teras Pakan have agreed to join the state BN-led party.

Teras Pakan deputy branch chairman Tuai Rumah Sedau Empali today (May 12) disclosed that the branch has 5,000 registered members, of which 3,000 could be Mawan loyalists, he said.

The meeting of the branch leaders and exco member were held at the Sarikei government resthouse near here today.

The decision by the branch was agreed in principle by Mawan, who said that they agreed with him should he decide to join PBB.

Mawan resigned from Teras a few days before nomination day on April 25, enabling him to contest using the BN direct candidate ticket during the state election.

Since his re-election, he has yet to decide on which BN component to join. Mawan was also seen going in and out of his Social Development Ministry office at Masja, Petra Jaya in Kuching over the past few days, prompting political observers to believe that he may hold the post of Social Development Minister again after Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem appoints his new cabinet line up.

Sources have also claimed that apart from former Teras president Mawan, former Teras senior vice president Rosey Yunus (Bekenu assemblywoman) and former treasurer-general Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau) would also be joining PBB together with three other BN direct assemblymen, namely Datuk Gerawat Gala (Mulu), John Ilus (Bukit Semuja) and Miro Simuh (Serembu).

Teras is still a registered party but its leaders have planned to have it dissolved since it has already “exhausted its purpose”.

Since May 15, 2014, Teras was only afforded the BN-Plus or BN-friendly party status.
