KUCHING: Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel were unexpectedly called to assist in dousing a burning van while on their way to conduct a fire drill yesterday.
The incident took place around 11am when personnel from the Petra Jaya fire station were heading to the Customs Department academy along Jalan Matang to participate in a fire drill. Along the way, they were notified that a van had caught fire at Taman Matang Jaya and immediately detoured to the location to put out the flames. Though it only took them mere minutes to douse the flaming vehicle, Bomba personnel were unable to prevent it from being totally razed.
Following their unexpected call-up, the team continued to the Customs Department academy for the scheduled fire drill exercise.
